An AI encoded with the values of Elon Musk or Mark Zuckerberg being the best realistic outcome for regular people should probably worry me more than it does. The EA dorks are just so ridiculous that it's hard to internalize they actually believe this stuff and will act on it given the chance.

What’s very stupid about their beliefs is the idea that if you just start adding numbers, that somehow makes it more rigorous. “Shrimps experience 250 utils of happiness” is a scientific statement, even though it’s meaningless.

What is exasperating to me (beyond the naked power play of having the state anoint them as the priest caste), is the ludicrous lurid sci-fi appeal of p(doom). Beyond the orgies (no doubt mediated by an app), it is not clear to me that the doomers have any real world experience, certainly no understanding of supply chains, energy infrastructure and the simple maintenance that it takes to maintain them. This does not dissuade them to prophesy that thinking computers will not only disrupt these industries but that these thinking computers will no longer need humans at all in these industries. Somehow the drone factories, and datacenters and hypothetical robot factories will just chug along without people, some how these thinking computers can wipe humanity and make robots to mine lithium salts for the drone batteries or keep the diesel topped up in the backup generators. Oh by the way, this will all magically happen in the next ten years. When challenged on their naivety, you might get challenged to a debate (in lieu of a duel) by their high priests. These people are the furthest thing from rational and should be mocked endlessly as the charlatans they are.

Isn't it a good thing if they're aligned by *non* representative humans?
